Memory Tunnel — Privacy Policy

Memory Tunnel is a free app for sharing photos and memories with the people who matter most. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what stays on your device.

What stays on your device (never leaves)

• Face detection and recognition. Memory Tunnel uses Apple Vision and on-device machine learning to detect and recognize faces in your photos. Face embeddings (mathematical representations of faces) are generated and stored entirely on your device. No biometric data, face images, or embeddings are ever sent to our servers or any third party.

• Birthday detection. Memory Tunnel reads birthday dates from your device Contacts to send you reminders. Only a signal that “today is a birthday” is sent to our server to queue a notification. The actual birthday date, contact name, and contact details are never transmitted.

• Photo scanning. Memory Tunnel scans your photo library on-device to suggest people and photos. The scan happens locally using Apple frameworks. Only photos you explicitly choose to share are uploaded.

What we collect

• Phone number. Used for SMS verification to create your account. We use Twilio Verify to send one-time codes. Your phone number is stored on our server to identify your account.

• Display name. The name you choose to show to your memory lane partners.

• Photos you choose to send. When you add a photo to a memory lane, the photo is uploaded to Amazon S3 (cloud storage). Only photos you explicitly select are uploaded.

• Voice clips you choose to send. Same as photos. Only clips you explicitly record and send are uploaded.

• Memory metadata. Captions, dates, locations, and emotion tags you add to your memories.

• Chapter (memory lane) data. Names of your memory lanes and who you share them with.

How we use your data

• To provide the Memory Tunnel service (sending and receiving memories between you and your partners).
• To send you daily memory cards and birthday reminders.
• To send you push notifications (if you opt in).

We do not:

• Sell your data to anyone.
• Use your data for advertising.
• Share your data with third parties except as needed to operate the service (Twilio for SMS, Amazon S3 for photo storage, Apple APNs for push notifications).
• Use your photos or data to train AI models.

Data storage

• Account data and memory metadata are stored on servers hosted by Fly.io in the United States.
• Photos and voice clips are stored on Amazon S3 in the United States.
• Face embeddings and contact data are stored only on your device.

Data deletion

You can delete individual memories at any time from within the app. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at the email below.

Children

Memory Tunnel is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app.
